Annual Fund Drive Letter (2020)
Dear Resident of Glenville Fire District 7 (Thomas Corners Fire Department), We are requesting a donation to our Annual Fund Drive, to support the programs and services we offer as an all-volunteer fire department. We are dedicated in all we do to compassionately help our community. Your donation is used to buy the candy canes that Santa passes out before Christmas, the food served at our Open House, uniforms for our members and donations we make to local groups (like the after-prom party at the high school). Our new sign out front was made possible because of a particularly generous donation from a district resident.
By ensuring the continuation of an all-volunteer fire department, you save money at tax time. The taxes you currently pay go for our training, equipment and protective clothing needed for answering calls. Taxes for a paid department include these as well as salaries and benefits for several dozen firefighters. Right now, we have about 20 volunteers – well trained and highly motivated to assist you when you need it most. That sounds like a lot of people, but when you consider we answer over 800 calls a year, we sure could use more help.
So, what do we get if we’re not getting paid? We get to make someone’s worst day a bit better, and if we’re lucky, a lot happier. The feeling you get from being part of the solution to an overwhelming crisis is incredible. It will last a long time, and be a source of comfort and satisfaction in the years to come. Along with fire calls, we respond to medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, hazardous material situations, storm damage, and any situation where someone needs help. State and County training is available to members to professionally respond to these emergencies. We also provide Basic First Aid and CPR training, and if a member is interested, arrange for Emergency Medical Technician training and certification.
If you would like more information about these opportunities, stop by the station any Tuesday evening after 7:00 PM or Friday morning after 9:00 AM when we have regularly scheduled details. Or, you can find out more about TCFD on our web site www.tcfd7.com, where we have a contact form for new members. You can also email us directly at TCFDcompany@nycap.rr.com.
Thank you in advance for your donation. This year, we have set up a button on our website so you can make your donation online, if you prefer. You can still send a donation in using the US Mail. Please be sure to include your return address (and apartment number, if needed) on the envelope so we won’t send a second letter. While you are at it, please consider volunteering your time and talents to help your family and your neighbors. You will be glad you did…and so will your neighbors!
Tom Green, Chief TCFD & Patricia Murray, President TCFD
P.S. – We are still working on what, how or if we will be doing Open House this year. Please stand by for details. In any case, thank you for your generosity.
